Local hotels launch campaign to highlight strengths of region

Hoteliers across BCP and east Dorset are working together to counter recent negative headlines with the launch of a new campaign designed to celebrate the region’s attractions and community pride.

The BH Area Hospitality Association has created the “Check In – Chill Out” initiative to showcase the very best of Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole. The campaign highlights the area’s distinctive character, including Bournemouth’s cultural life, Christchurch’s heritage, and Poole’s maritime traditions and vibrant quay.

Rosie Radwell, chair of the association, said: “Like many parts of the UK, we face some social challenges, but the way they have been portrayed has been exaggerated beyond recognition. Check In – Chill Out is about reclaiming our story, reminding ourselves how fortunate we are to live and work here, and shining a light on the wonderful experiences awaiting visitors.”

The association represents many of the region’s established hotels and accommodation providers and is encouraging both residents and businesses to get involved. The campaign also underlines the area’s tourism strengths, including twelve miles of coastline, award-winning Blue Flag beaches, green spaces, family attractions, and a wide choice of restaurants.

Tim Lloyd, director at the Captains Club Hotel in Christchurch, said: “We’re not ignoring certain issues, but the media spotlight has been skewed. Visitors who come here experience something vastly different from what they see in the media — so we invite them to come, check in and chill out, and see for themselves.”

Tourism and hospitality bring around £800 million into the local economy and support thousands of jobs, making the sector a vital part of community wellbeing. Employers hope the campaign will encourage confidence locally while also attracting visitors from further afield.

Rosie added: “Most local people are incredibly proud of where we live, and we need to challenge the recent coverage that has painted an unfairly bleak picture. Through Check In – Chill Out, we want that positivity to spread — and when visitors feel it too, the whole community benefits.”

The campaign can be followed on social media under “Check In – Chill Out.”
