Bournemouth will host its first International Film Festival this October, with the two-day event promising a programme of screenings, workshops, and industry events.
The Bournemouth International Film Festival (BIFF) will take place on Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th October at the Hilton Bournemouth in Terrace Road. It will feature films from both emerging and established directors, with a mix of short and feature films, documentaries, and animation.
Alongside screenings, there will be opportunities for filmmakers and audiences to take part in industry panels, workshops, and Q&A sessions. Networking events are also planned, aimed at helping aspiring writers, directors and producers make valuable connections.
A black-tie awards night and after-party on Saturday 4th October will close the festival, with films judged by a national panel of industry professionals including award-winning writers, directors and producers.
Festival director Steve McCarten, who is based in Bournemouth, said the event is intended to leave a lasting mark on the region. He explained: “This is more than a festival. It’s the beginning of a long-term cultural investment in our region. We want to showcase brilliant national and international work, whilst also building real opportunities for the next generation of local filmmakers here in Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.”
He added that BIFF will continue beyond the festival weekend, with plans for educational outreach, community projects and partnerships with regional creative organisations. He said the event is supported by local institutions, businesses and public sector partners, and aims to encourage participation from audiences of all ages and backgrounds.
The festival has been founded as a not-for-profit initiative, with a focus on accessibility and diverse programming. Submissions are open until 12th September for filmmakers and screenwriters who want to see their work included in the festival programme.
It is supported by many local businesses and organisations including Bournemouth One.
