AFC Bournemouth earned their first Premier League win of the season with a one nil victory over Wolverhampton Wanderers at Vitality Stadium.
Marcus Tavernier struck in the fourth minute after Antoine Semenyo forced Jean-Ricner Bellegarde into a mistake and played him through. Tavernier’s effort deflected off Emmanuel Agbadou before hitting the underside of the bar and crossing the line.
Five minutes later the Cherries almost doubled their lead when David Brooks delivered a dangerous cross that Semenyo met, only to see his shot crash against the bar.
Goalkeeper Đorđe Petrović was called into action to deny Jorgen Strand Larsen, but Bournemouth continued to dictate play and look the more likely to score again.
The match swung further in the home side’s favour three minutes into the second half. Brooks released Evanilson with a perfectly weighted ball, only for Wolves defender Toti Gomes to pull him down just outside the penalty area. The referee showed a straight red card, reducing the visitors to ten men.
From there Bournemouth pressed for a second goal. Jose Sa saved well from Tyler Adams’ long-range strike, while Amine Adli came off the bench for his Premier League debut and impressed with his sharpness.
There was more good news for Andoni Iraola with Justin Kluivert and Ryan Christie both returning from injury to feature in the game.
Bournemouth held firm through the closing stages to secure their first three points of the campaign, a win that was fully deserved after a dominant performance.
