Dorset Police is marking A-level results day yesterday by encouraging students to explore the variety of career opportunities in policing.
Two main entry routes are available.
The Police and Detective Constable Entry Programme is a two-year vocational pathway for those who prefer not to study for a degree. It combines practical, on-the-job training with classroom-based learning, leading to a Diploma in Professional Policing Practice.
The Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship is a three-year programme that provides a fully funded degree in Professional Policing Practice. It combines operational experience with academic study, enabling participants to earn while they learn.
Both programmes offer ongoing support and assessment throughout training and can lead to a range of specialist positions, including neighbourhood policing, investigations, firearms, dog handling and roads policing.
Applicants must have GCSE-level qualifications in English and Maths at grade C or higher, along with A-level or equivalent qualifications.
Assistant Chief Officer Jo Mosley, Director of People and Enabling Services, said the force wanted to wish all students well as they opened their results.
She added that there is an entry route to suit different learning preferences, and that policing offers a career with varied opportunities for progression and specialisation.
More information about the available pathways is provided on the Dorset Police recruitment website.
