The Gillingham and Shaftesbury Show returns on Wednesday 13 and Thursday 14 August with a packed programme of arena entertainment and rural attractions.
The Knights of Albion will make their first appearance in Dorset with a medieval jousting performance featuring professional stunt riders and trick-trained horses in full armour. The show will pit Sir Marc the Brave of Gillingham and Sir Rebekka the Wise of Shaftesbury against Sir John the Vile of Trowbridge.
Adding to the main arena line-up, the Tigers Motorcycle Display Team will perform stunts including fire jumps, high-speed chicanes and precision riding. Team members range in age from five to sixteen.
Away from the arena, visitors can enjoy livestock parades, equestrian events, Shetland pony racing on Thursday, and heavy horse demonstrations on both days. There will also be interactive children’s farming exhibits, vintage machinery, steam engines, classic cars, crafts, shopping stalls, live music and a funfair.
Show organiser Cat Harris said the mix of medieval jousting and modern stunt riding offers something for all ages.
The Gillingham and Shaftesbury Show was first held in 1868 and is now staged annually at the Turnpike Showground.
