Poole farmer donates £8,800 to hospital in wife’s memory

A Poole farmer has donated £8,800 to radiotherapy services at Poole Hospital in memory of his late wife, Jane.

Philip Trim made the donation to University Hospitals Dorset to thank staff who cared for Jane before she died from lung cancer in 2018. She had chosen to be treated through the NHS and was supported by the hospital’s radiotherapy team.

Jane, described as a dedicated cattle breeder from Corfe Castle, received care at Poole Hospital. Her family has since raised more than £80,000 to support the Radiotherapy Department through various activities, including tractor rides, a campsite fundraiser and metal detecting events held on the family’s land.

Philip said he and his son Ben wanted other families to benefit from the same level of care, and they continue to raise money each August. The latest donation was presented on the family’s farm.

David Frost, head of radiotherapy, said the department was grateful for the ongoing support. The funds will help provide comfort and advanced treatment for local patients beyond what NHS budgets can cover.

The donation forms part of continued fundraising efforts for the University Hospitals Dorset NHS Charity.
