Bournemouth Water highlights ten nature spots for summer family visits

Bournemouth Water has released a list of ten family-friendly outdoor destinations for residents and visitors to enjoy this summer, with an emphasis on local waterside walks and green spaces.

Topping the list is Longham Lakes near Ferndown, where surfaced paths and wildlife sightings make it a popular spot for families, birdwatchers and anglers. Nearby, the Bourne Stream offers a peaceful urban walk through Bournemouth Gardens with shaded picnic areas and spots to paddle.

Further highlights include riverside paths along the Avon and Stour, both of which offer scenic routes, wildlife and opportunities for boat trips or walking.

Christchurch Harbour, partly managed by South West Lakes Trust, is another key location, known for its birdlife and views.

The selection also includes Highcliffe Beach for fossil hunting, Wimborne Minster for riverside history walks, and New Milton, where peregrine falcons nest thanks to local conservation work supported by Bournemouth Water.

Other locations include the New Forest National Park, Beaulieu, and the full Stour Valley Way route, which stretches from Wiltshire to Hengistbury Head.

Saška McGrath from Bournemouth Water said the ten places showcase the area’s natural beauty and added: “We hope families will enjoy them respectfully and only leave footprints behind.”
