Jurassic Coast tops AA list of UK’s most popular road trips

The Jurassic Coast has been named the most popular road trip in the UK, according to a new AA survey.

The stretch between Swanage and Lyme Regis was the top choice for drivers, with 23 per cent saying they had travelled the route.

The route, which passes through Dorset’s World Heritage coastline, ranked above scenic drives in Devon, Cornwall, Wales and Scotland.

Open countryside and coastal roads were the preferred scenery types among drivers surveyed, with mountains coming third. The North Coast 500 in the Scottish Highlands was found to be the most enjoyed route, although fewer people had driven it.

The top ten routes also included the Atlantic Highway, the Gower Peninsula and Northumberland 250. The least enjoyed was a full circuit of the M25.
