Broadstone First School celebrates rare School Games Platinum Award

Broadstone First School has been awarded the prestigious School Games Platinum Award, marking a new milestone after four consecutive years of achieving Gold.

The award is the highest recognition within England’s School Games Mark framework and is rarely given to first schools. It recognises excellence in inclusive physical education, sports leadership and participation in school competitions.

The announcement comes as Broadstone Middle School, which shares a site with the first school, prepares to launch a dedicated ‘sports stream’ to further develop sporting opportunities for children in the area.

Both schools are part of the Castleman Academy Trust, which promotes extra-curricular activity and sport across its schools: Ferndown First, Ferndown Middle, Parley First, Broadstone First, and Broadstone Middle.

Sophie Burke, acting headteacher at Broadstone First School and the lead for the new sports stream at the middle school, said the award reflects “a dynamic and competitive sporting environment for all pupils” built over several years. She added that the support of the parent community was vital to reaching this level.

Rhonda Moore, CEO of the Castleman Academy Trust, said the award is “a great achievement” and that receiving Platinum status from the Youth Sport Trust demonstrates real commitment to physical education.
