Afrodisiac Live Radio has received a £10,000 grant from The National Lottery Community Fund to support and expand its free radio and DJ workshops for young people.
The workshops, which first launched in 2021, are aimed at 11 to 18-year-olds and offer hands-on experience in community radio, podcasting, and DJing.
Sessions run weekly from Tuesday to Thursday, 4pm to 6pm, and are delivered in small groups to ensure focused guidance and learning.
Participants develop core skills in broadcasting, production, interviewing, and DJ techniques while also improving their confidence and teamwork.
The new funding will enable Afrodisiac Live Radio to increase workshop capacity and offer more young people access to training in a supportive setting.
Workshop topics include the evolution of radio, scriptwriting, live show production, DJ set creation, and equipment use.
Afrodisiac Live Radio is a not-for-profit community interest company based in Bournemouth that promotes cultural expression across Bournemouth, Poole, Christchurch, and nearby areas.
A spokesperson for Afrodisiac Live Radio said: “This support from The National Lottery Community Fund will help us reach more young people and continue offering creative opportunities that build real-world skills.”
