New soft play centre officially opened following £200k investment to enhance community spaces

A new soft play centre has been officially opened in Bournemouth.

BCP Council leader Cllr Millie Earl cut a ribbon to mark the launch of Action Zone at BCP Leisure in Kings Park.

The facility, which is part of the town’s fund programme, follows a £200,000 investment to enhance inclusive, family-focused community spaces.

It’s intended to be a safe indoor space to help people stay active throughout the year.

Cllr Richard Herrett, BCP Council’s Portfolio Holder for Destination, Leisure & Commercial Operations, told Bournemouth One: “It was viewed as a real priority, a facility people would want to have in the area, somewhere indoors with things to do when it’s wet and not nice outside.

“There are so many people who live in easy access distance, and therefore it was a facility we were happy to provide.”

The development was funded by the town’s fund and the shared prosperity fund.

Cllr Herrett said: “It’s active, it’s available, and it’s so close.

“This is right in the heart of a community ready for people to get to.”

Cllr Earl paid tribute to the vision of Dan Stone, BCP Council’s Leisure Partnership and Development Manager.

She said: “A couple of years ago, Dan and I came down to have a look at this when it used to be an indoor bowls club.

“It’s quite shocking and overwhelming to see just how it has been transformed.

“It’s wonderful that Dan’s vision is bringing this place to life and bringing many more people in our community to be able to have fun here.”

The soft play area is now open to the public with sessions available to book online or in person.
