AFC Bournemouth’s FA Cup run ends in hard-fought quarter-final against Manchester City

AFC Bournemouth’s impressive Emirates FA Cup journey came to an end with a narrow 2-1 defeat to Manchester City at Vitality Stadium in the quarter-finals on Sunday.

The Cherries took the lead in the first half when Evanilson capitalised on a well-placed ball from Justin Kluivert, guiding it into the net.

Bournemouth’s strong first-half display was highlighted by a crucial penalty save from Kepa Arrizabalaga, who denied Erling Haaland from the spot.

Manchester City responded in the second half, with substitute Nico O’Reilly delivering a precise cross for Haaland to equalise. The visitors then took the lead just after the hour mark when Omar Marmoush, shortly after coming on, found the net from inside the box.

Bournemouth had further chances, including a near miss from Marcos Senesi, while Kepa produced a point-blank save to keep the hosts in contention. Despite their efforts, City held firm to secure their place in the semi-finals at Wembley against Nottingham Forest.

The match also saw Marcos Senesi return from injury, providing a boost for Bournemouth as they now turn their focus to the remainder of their league campaign.
