In Christchurch, twelve people and four dogs had to be rescued by the Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service from Iford Bridge Home Park along the River Stour, and BCP Council set up a rest centre at Beaufort Community Centre to provide support for residents.
Councillor Andy Hadley, Cabinet Member for Climate Response, Environment and Energy at BCP Council, said: “The council continues to actively collaborate with the Environment Agency, Dorset and Wiltshire Fire Service, and Dorset Police in a coordinated multi-agency response to assist local communities affected by flooding following Storm Bert.
“Work has continued throughout the day at Iford Bridge Home Park and the council established a rest centre at Beaufort Community Centre to provide support to those residents evacuated from the site.
“These residents have been offered suitable alternative accommodation until such time that they can safely return to their homes.
“The safety and wellbeing of our residents remains our utmost priority, and I would like to remind anyone faced with a flood emergency to dial 999, and to take the advice of the Emergency Service about moving to a place of safety when advised.”
Dorset Council closed Ringwood Road at Longham Bridge from Monday evening to Tuesday morning, and BCP Council put barriers and warning signs in place at Bear Cross Roundabout.
