Man in hospital after being struck with a bottle in Bournemouth

A man in his 30s was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after being struck with a bottle in Bournemouth.

Dorset Police received a report from the ambulance service just after 4am this morning (Saturday) about the incident in the Poole Hill area of Bournemouth.

A full investigation into this incident has been launched – led by detectives from BCP CID – and a police cordon has been put in place between West Hill Road, Poole Hill and Commercial Road as enquiries are carried out.

A spokesperson said: “There will be an increased policing presence in the vicinity and officers can be approached by members of the public with information or concerns.

“While these were initially described as life-threatening, we have been informed that he is no longer in a critical condition.

“The victim and suspect were known to each other. No arrests have been made at this time.

“From our early investigations we would like to reassure the public that we don’t believe this incident to be linked to the Bournemouth Air Festival or the night-time economy.

“During the weekend, there will be increased high visibility patrols in the area to engage with the public, offer reassurance and respond to any reported crime and anti-social behaviour. Officers can be approached by members of the public with information or concerns.”

Traffic has been suspended from Commercial Road for the time being.
