The Palace Court Theatre in Hinton Road is set to host its first public performance in forty years.
The four hundred seat 1930’s Art Deco building was acquired by Arts University Bournemouth in twenty twenty and is currently undergoing refurbishment.
Principal and vice-chancellor at AUB, Prof Paul Gough said: “By using the spaces that have already been refurbished, the venue will be able to host a full programme of educational and cultural events.”
The first performance will be The Ballad of Maria Marten from the 15th May, breathing a new lease of life into the theatre.
The show’s being put on by the university bringing together industry professionals and students who are studying acting, costume and set design.
The university said the theatre would reclaim “its spotlight in the town’s cultural landscape”.
