Poole Travelodge evacuated after solar panel system fire

Emergency services attended a fire on the roof of a hotel in Poole on Sunday afternoon.

The incident happened around 2.30pm at Travelodge, off Waterloo Road.

Multiple crews and eight fire engines were in attendance and they advised people to avoid the area until the situation was under control.

A Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson told Bournemouth One: “We were called at 2:24pm today with reports of a fire at the Travelodge on Fleets Corner Business Park, Waterloo Road, Poole.

“Initially eight pumping appliances were mobilised from Poole, Wimborne, Redhill Park and Westbourne along with the Aerial Ladder Platform (ALP) from Westbourne and support units from Hamworthy and Dorchester. On arrival found a fire within a junction panel of a some solar panels on the roof of the building which was extinguished using foam.

“Approximately 3m x 3m of butimen roof material was also affected by fire damage. The stop was in at 3:13pm and the incident was scaled back to three pumping appliances from Poole and Westbourne and the ALP.

“All remaining appliances have now left the incident but this remains open for a reinspection later today.”
