Cherries fight back from two-nil down to draw with Sheffield United

AFC Bournemouth have suffered a shock draw to relegation favourites Sheffield United after the in-form Dominic Solanke skied a first-half penalty.

The Cherries were forced into one change with Chris Mepham replacing the injured Marcos Senesi while Tyler Adams returned from injury and named on the bench.

Bournemouth started well and were awarded a 14th-minute penalty when Tom Davies fouled Dominic Solanke from behind, the in-form striker took the spot kick but slipped as he struck the ball firing it over the crossbar.

Sheffield United grabbed the opening goal of the game when Gustavo Hamer gave the Blades a surprising lead five days after their 6-0 defeat to Arsenal.

Bournemouth continued to push but Sheffield United matched everything Iraola’s men threw at them.

Chris Wilder’s team doubled their lead when a defensive mixup between goalkeeper Neto and Solanke fell to Jack Robinson who headed the ball inches over the line.

Solanke responded instantly firing the ball past the away keeper Ivo Grbic before VAR ruled it out after a Blades clearance hit the hand of the prolific striker.

Bournemouth did find the net again when Dango Ouattara headed home from a superbly delivered corner.

As Wilder set his team up to see out the shock result, a 90th-minute equaliser from Getafe loanee Enes Unal broke Sheffield United hearts and confirmed a fantastic turnaround.

Despite a thrilling conclusion, Iraola will feel two points were dropped while Sheffield United will be frustrated having let a crucial couple of points slip in the battle to stay in the division.
