In a disappointing result for the in-form Cherries, Bournemouth lost 4-0 to title-chasing Liverpool after a brace from both Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez.
Bournemouth, who wore black armbands to pay respect to loaned-out player Jaidon Anthony after the passing of his mother in the week, started the game strongly but failed to register a single shot on target. Both teams struggled to get control of the game with the half’s best chance coming from a Justin Kluivert cross that narrowly missed a Bournemouth boot.
However, in the second half the travelling Reds showed their class when the Uruguayan Darwin Nunez finished off a superb Liverpool team goal. Bournemouth responded by bringing on Alex Scott for Luis Sinisterra and Lloyd Kelly for the debuting James Hill. However, Liverpool continued to up their performance levels when Portgual international Diogo Jota netted a double putting the game out of sight.
Bournemouth were then forced to end the game with 10 men as they ran out of substitutes when Max Aarons went down injured. In the 8 added minutes that no manager would have wanted to play, Nunez netted his second to relieve some building pressure around his finishing ability.
Bournemouth will look to get injured players returning and bounce back when they host Swansea in the FA Cup 4th Round on Thursday.
