A Bournemouth football club has submitted plans to replace its main grass pitch with an artificial surface.
Bournemouth Electric Football Club wants to upgrade its facilities at Broadway Lane, where it currently has a full-size adult pitch, training pitch, changing rooms, car parking and a clubhouse.
The club was established in 1935 as a social venue for Southern Electricity Board employees and now caters for more than 12 teams, including men’s, women’s and veterans’ sides.
Plans include perimeter fencing, a run-off area and improved lighting provided by 8 columns, each measuring 15m high, positioned around the outside of the main pitch.
A planning statement says the changes would provide a “consistent, high-quality playing surface”, while reducing the club’s reliance on suitable weather and lowering the amount spent on maintaining the pitch.
Bournemouth Electric also believes the artificial surface would remove the need to hire other venues for training sessions and matches when its own grass facilities cannot be used.
The consultation remains open until August 28 under planning application P/26/03710/FUL.
