Plans for a dedicated exercise studio at Two Riversmeet Leisure Centre are “recommended for approval”.
The proposed extension would give the Christchurch centre a purpose-built space for classes, which currently take place in squash courts and the sports hall because no dedicated studio is available.
Two Riversmeet is the only leisure centre in Christchurch operated by BCP Council and includes two swimming pools, a fitness suite, 3G football pitches, squash courts and an indoor cycling studio.
The project was submitted after approval was given for the authority to borrow the required funding, and the planning committee is due to consider the application at its meeting on 20 August.
Only one response was received during consultation, identifying a small section of land outside council ownership which had mistakenly been included within the application boundary shown in the plans.
The boundary was corrected and no further comments were received, while Councillor Patrick Canavan called the application before the committee because Two Riversmeet Leisure Centre is a council-owned asset.
