More than 120 firefighters continue to tackle a heathland fire beside the A31 near Ringwood today.
The fire service says the incident is affecting an area of around 1sq km, with crews facing heat and difficult terrain as they work to prevent the fire spreading further, while police drones are being used to monitor the scene.
There are currently 10 fire engines and 13 off road vehicles at the incident, with the fire service planning to maintain that level of resources until at least midnight, although it says they are likely to be needed for longer.
Crews from Hants & IOW are being supported by neighbouring fire services and others from across the country, who are providing specialist vehicles and equipment as the operation continues following the vehicle fire which began on the A31 yesterday.
The fire service said it recognised the A31 is a “crucial part of our road network”, but road closures remain in place while firefighters continue their work.
It has asked people to continue avoiding the area while crews work to prevent further damage to the surrounding countryside.
