Scott’s Hill Lane Park in Purewell, Christchurch, which has been closed for over five years, could soon reopen under Christchurch Town Council’s management.
The park has remained shut since the Covid-19 lockdown and has not been accessible to the public since then.
During a full council meeting, Barry Smith asked for an update on the transfer of the park’s lease to Christchurch Town Council, expressing concern that ongoing delays could mean another generation of children missing out on the play space.
Councillor Sandra Moore confirmed that discussions have taken place between the council, the landowner and Christchurch Town Council.
She said these parties are now progressing legal agreements and working towards a land transfer that will allow the town council to take responsibility for the park and make improvements to enable its reopening.
While there is currently no set timeframe for the completion of the transfer, Councillor Moore said, “we hope this will be completed as soon as possible.”
