A man in his fifties was injured during a robbery at the One Stop store on Barrack Road in Christchurch after intervening when a shoplifter escaped.
The incident took place at around 6.30pm, when the victim tried to take a large black holdall from the suspect, described as a white man with messy black hair.
The victim was assaulted and later taken to hospital for treatment. After the incident, he reported that some of his personal belongings were missing, believed to have been taken by the suspect.
Dorset Police are conducting enquiries, including reviewing CCTV footage, and are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage from the area to come forward.
Officers are particularly keen to speak to a group of young men who reportedly tried to help the victim at the scene.
