A Bournemouth woman is planning a new future after moving into her own home with support.
33-year-old Shannon Poole was given accommodation by Hope Housing, Training and Support in 2022 after a relationship ended, leaving her with nowhere to stay following earlier periods of homelessness in Bournemouth.
She had experienced sexual exploitation and abuse as a teenager and later slept rough, including six months beneath Bournemouth Pier, before beginning to speak about her experiences with a support worker.
Shannon said Hope had helped her learn to care for herself, rediscover art and singing, and prepare for independent living, adding that she was “so proud” to have her own place.
She now plans to attend college and work with animals, while the charity will continue helping with budgeting, bills and other challenges as she settles into her home and builds greater independence.
Hope founder and chief executive Julie Berti said the charity felt “privileged” to support Shannon as she rebuilt her confidence, adding that Hope has helped more than 2,700 homeless people access accommodation, support and counselling since 2009.
