Police are searching for a man who went missing after entering the sea at Durley Chine beach in Bournemouth.
Officers received a report at 5.35pm on Tuesday 21 July 2026, raising concern for the welfare of a swimmer who had asked members of the public to look after his belongings between 2pm and 3pm before going into the water and not returning.
The man is described as white, in his 50s, with tanned skin and dark brown hair. Dorset Police, supported by HM Coastguard and the RNLI, have been conducting searches in the area to locate him.
Sergeant David Carmichael said officers are growing concerned for the swimmer’s welfare and are appealing for anyone who saw a man matching the description, or who recognises the belongings left behind, to come forward.
He added that the priority is to ensure the swimmer is safe and well.
