Vikki Slade, Member of Parliament for Mid Dorset and North Poole, has received assurances from incoming Prime Minister Andy Burnham that the concerns of a Dorset family affected by a fatal helicopter crash will be heard.
During a debate in Parliament, Vikki Slade welcomed the introduction of the Public Office (Accountability) Bill, also known as the Hillsborough law, which aims to require public officials to be truthful in inquiries and investigations.
The Bill also seeks to ensure bereaved families have equal representation at inquests.
Vikki Slade highlighted the case of the family of Major Anthony Hornby MBE, who died in the Chinook helicopter crash in the Mull of Kintyre in 1994.
She has been supporting the Dorset-based family in their campaign for a public inquiry, following claims that some defence officials may have known the helicopter was not fit to fly.
After the debate, Vikki Slade met with Andy Burnham to discuss extending the duty of candour in the Bill to include those involved in the Chinook tragedy.
Andy Burnham praised her efforts in Parliament, recognising the ongoing campaign for justice.
