Dorset councillor announces Cabinet exit

Councillor Jon Andrews will leave Dorset Council’s Cabinet after July’s meetings for personal reasons.

He has served as Cabinet Member for Place Services since May 2024, overseeing roads, waste and recycling, transport and environmental services, while supporting improvements to local journeys and responses to severe weather and flooding.

Councillor Andrews said the decision followed “a great deal of thought and reflection”, adding that stepping down was “the right one for me” and that he remained proud of the work completed during his time in the role.

He will continue representing Sherborne East and plans to hand over to his successor in early September, offering advice and guidance to help maintain continuity across the council’s frontline services.

Council leader Councillor Nick Ireland thanked him for his “commitment, passion and expertise”, saying his practical approach had made a difference across Dorset and confirming that a replacement will be announced before September’s meetings.
