Plans propose relocating Poole train station

Poole railway station could be moved as part of plans to help regenerate the town centre, according to new council documents.

The proposal forms part of the Local Transport Plan, which is being developed to address the needs and priorities of residents and businesses in the Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole area. The council will review opportunities for new or relocated train stations to support housing and employment growth.

The documents highlight Poole’s maritime heritage and the potential for heritage-led regeneration on previously developed land, with the possible relocation of the train station seen as a way to support this.

The council also plans to work with Network Rail and Great British Railways to deliver a suitable replacement for Poole Level Crossing.

This project is expected to be one of the more expensive schemes, with delivery anticipated between 2031 and 2036.

The proposals are due to be discussed at a BCP council Environment and Place Overview and Scrutiny Board meeting on July 15.
