A contemporary tap dance production will bring its story of Icarus to Bournemouth this autumn.
STORIES – The Tap Dance Sensation from RB Dance Company will be performed at Bournemouth Pavilion on Saturday 7 November, as part of a UK tour following the show’s sold-out UK premiere in 2024.
The production follows Icarus, a successful young actor who is trapped by the control of a powerful film director, with the story told through a blend of tap dance, urban jazz and an original score.
A cast of 10 dancers will perform on a changing set designed by Federica Mugnai, moving through settings including film sets, hotels and gambling clubs, with lighting by Alex Hardellet and costumes by Margaux Ponsard and Janie Loriault.
RB Dance Company was founded in 2018 by artistic director, choreographer and producer Romain Rachline Borgeaud, who created STORIES to present tap dance through large-scale narrative productions.
Rachline Borgeaud said the work explores “themes of duality” and uses contemporary dance to show Icarus’s “intense inner journey”.
He added that he hopes audiences will enjoy “the energy, emotion, and joy of tap dance”.
