Man dies after falling down beach cliff

A man has died following an incident on Southbourne Cliff Drive on Friday morning.

Dorset Police said officers were called at 11.19am on Friday 26 June following concerns for the welfare of a man near Fisherman’s Walk in Southbourne. Officers attended the scene and began engaging with the man.

Police said it was subsequently reported that the man fell from height. Emergency services responded to the incident and a cordon was established while crews attended. A short time later, the man was confirmed to have died at the scene.

The man has not yet been formally identified. Dorset Police said the death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for HM Coroner.

Because officers were already at the location when the incident occurred, the force has referred the matter to the Independent Office for Police Conduct, which it described as “standard in incidents of this nature”.

Police also acknowledged that many people were in the area at the time and have urged anyone who witnessed the incident not to share images or videos online.
