BCP Council has launched a £24million tender to find a new operator for Poole Crematorium, which has not carried out cremations since 2020 due to equipment failure.
While ceremonial services have continued at Halo Hall, cremations have been taking place in Bournemouth. The council is seeking a partner under a 20-year agreement to invest in and run the Gravel Hill facility, aiming to restore full operations for local families.
Councillor Sandra Moore said the council knows residents want Poole Crematorium fully operational again and that the new contract aims to secure investment and improve services for bereaved families across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.
The contract is set to begin in February 2027 and run until January 2047. Interested companies have until July 2026 to submit bids, with a decision expected by February 2027.
The council has consulted with stakeholders throughout the process, and several parties have already expressed interest in the site.
