Dorset Police says a second man and a woman have been arrested following the discovery of a suspected explosive device in Suffolk Avenue, Christchurch.
Officers found the device while carrying out arrest enquiries at a property shortly after 9.30am on Monday.
It was removed later that evening by an Explosive Ordnance Disposal team and is being made safe.
Three people have now been arrested on suspicion of firearms offences and remain in police custody.
A 50-metre cordon remains in place while further searches are carried out, and some nearby residents have not yet been able to return home.
Police say there is no risk to Twynham Primary School or to the wider public.
