SEND reform plan nears submission

BCP Council is preparing to submit its Local SEND Reform Plan to Government by June 19.

The plan will set out how education, health and care partners aim to improve support and outcomes for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.

The council says children, young people, parents and carers have helped shape the proposals.

If the plan is approved, the Government could pay off 90 per cent of the council’s historic SEND deficit, with BCP expected to fund the remaining 10 per cent.

Councillor Richard Burton said families want a system where children feel safe, understood and supported.

The council says the plan builds on progress recognised by Ofsted and the Care Quality Commission, while acknowledging further improvement is still needed.
