Theme park planning meeting delayed

A planning meeting about the former Adventure Wonderland site has been postponed by BCP Council.

The meeting had been due to take place on Thursday, May 28, but the council said it was cancelled “due to an administrative error whereby insufficient notice of the meeting had been given”.

Councillors were expected to discuss proposals for the former theme park site, alongside plans for a car-free development of 20 flats and alterations to the Boscombe Hawkwood Road Car Park regeneration project.

The Adventure Wonderland plans include reopening the café and shop, changing the karting track so it can be used for pedal tractors, and turning former ride areas into gardens, outdoor play spaces and a mini golf course.

The scheme is partly retrospective and also includes the conversion of former buildings for the Discovery Village, described as a facility for people with disabilities, and the operation of commercial airport parking on part of the car park.

Planning officers had recommended that the Adventure Wonderland application should be refused when it came before the committee.

The same meeting was also due to consider the 20-flat car-free development and changes to the Hawkwood Road regeneration project, with both schemes recommended for approval.

The meeting has now been rescheduled for Friday, June 5.
