Castlepoint launches bottle top vote

Castlepoint shoppers are being invited to recycle bottle tops while voting for a new community project.

The Bournemouth shopping centre has partnered again with recycling creators Brothers Make, giving visitors the chance to choose between bird boxes, a community shelf for books and games, or a dog friendly water station.

Shoppers can cast their vote by placing bottle tops into a dedicated voting station outside M and S, with the collected plastic later transformed into the winning installation.

Voting closes in June, although the donation point will remain open throughout the summer so more bottle tops can continue to be recycled ahead of the final project launch during Sustainable September.

Castlepoint previously worked with Brothers Make last year on workshops which turned recycled bottle tops into trolley tokens, with the centre now hoping even more shoppers will take part this year.

Centre manager David Pickett said the project would help “bring the community together to recycle and vote for a new permanent installation” for visitors to enjoy at Castlepoint.

He added that the initiative aimed to stop bottle tops going to landfill while encouraging shoppers to think more about recycling and sustainability throughout the year.

The voting station forms part of a wider programme of spring activities at Castlepoint, including fashion and beauty events running from 14 to 16 May inside an Airstream vehicle in the centre.
