Businesses have helped clear litter from Bournemouth town centre ahead of the summer season.
The seventh Big Bournemouth Clean Up brought together teams from across the town on Wednesday 13 May, with volunteers using litter pickers and bin bags in several key streets and public spaces.
Those taking part included Bh2, Palace Court Theatre, Lester Aldridge, Stephens Scown, Lush, Barbara’s Bier Haus, Grosvenor Casino, BCP Council, Bournemouth University, Bobby’s and Turtle Bay.
Bournemouth Town Centre BID Rangers and staff led the clean up, which covered Old Christchurch Road, The Square, Commercial Road, The Triangle and surrounding streets.
In 2 hours, the teams collected 53 bags of rubbish while removing litter and debris from public areas.
The work received a positive response from people in the town centre, with several stopping to thank volunteers and BID Rangers. One passing driver also stopped their car to show their appreciation.
Rachel Woodward Carrick, Director of Bournemouth Town Centre BID and Director of BU International College, said the event showed what can happen when businesses work together “for the good of the town”.
She said small actions “collectively make a real difference” to how Bournemouth town centre looks and feels as summer approaches.
The clean up forms part of the BID’s wider Welcoming programme, which includes rapid response cleaning support, graffiti removal, hanging flower baskets and other work for town centre businesses.
