The manager of Poole’s Dolphin Centre is calling on BCP Council to urgently fix ongoing lift failures, warning the issue is having a “serious and tangible impact” on businesses and visitors.
Centre manager John Grinnell has challenged the council’s claims about repairs, saying only one additional lift has been restored—not two as stated—leaving five still out of service.
He criticised what he described as inaccurate public information and a lack of urgency, adding that retailers are suffering and visitors—especially those needing step-free access—are being let down.
BCP Council said lift performance has been inconsistent, with two lifts briefly returning to service before further faults. Officials say they are awaiting repair timelines and working to restore full operation as soon as possible.
In the meantime, the council is advising visitors to use alternative access routes, including ground-floor parking, ramps from upper levels, nearby car parks, or public transport links.
