BCP Council has confirmed that staff are no longer permitted to work from abroad.
The council says a small number of employees had previously been working overseas under informal arrangements.
However, officials have now ended the practice, making it clear that working from another country is not allowed.
A spokesperson said all staff have been informed that any previous agreements no longer apply.
Employees who need to travel abroad for personal reasons are being advised to use options such as annual leave, compassionate leave or career breaks.
The council added that only a “handful” of staff had been working overseas before the policy change.
