MP criticises Beaufort Community Centre closure

Tom Hayes has spoken out over the planned closure of Beaufort Community Centre.

The facility is set to shut its doors on April 30, with 18 staff facing redundancy.

The closure is due to financial pressures, with income no longer covering running costs.

Around 35 to 40 children currently attend childcare services at the centre each day.

BCP Council says its Early Years team will support families in finding alternative provision.

However, Hayes has criticised the council’s handling of the situation, saying more could have been done to plan ahead and support the community.

He also raised concerns about the lack of a transition plan or replacement provider.

The council says it may consider taking over the building as a community centre in the future, but not childcare services.

It has also said it does not have the resources to provide short-term financial support.

The MP says he will continue to push for solutions to protect services and secure the centre’s future.
