Council staff earn over £100,000

A total of 22 staff at BCP Council earn more than £100,000 a year, according to new figures.

The data comes from the Taxpayers’ Alliance Town Hall Rich List, which outlines the highest earners in local authorities for the 2024 to 2025 financial year.

Across the UK, the report found 4,733 council employees were paid more than £100,000, an increase from the previous year.

It also revealed that 320 council staff earned more than the Prime Minister’s salary.

At BCP Council, former chief executive Graham Farrant was listed as the top earner, with a salary of £205,178 and a pension contribution of more than £37,000.

He stepped down from the role in August 2025.

The next highest earners included the Corporate Director of Children’s Services and the Corporate Director of Wellbeing.

Several other senior roles, including directors of finance, law and governance, and IT, were also listed among the top earners.

Local authorities are only required to publish the names of staff earning more than £150,000, meaning some roles remain undisclosed.

A spokesperson for BCP Council said salaries are benchmarked across the sector and reflect the experience required to manage services for more than 400,000 residents.

They added that the council publishes details of senior roles earning more than £50,000 as part of its transparency commitments.
