New leadership course for Dorset firms

A new leadership course in Poole will help first-time managers across Dorset build confidence.

The Accidental Managers Programme has been launched by Evolve for people who step into management roles without formal training, often after being promoted for strong performance or technical ability rather than experience in leading and supporting colleagues.

Created to help bridge that gap, the 6-session programme combines in-person workshops, online peer sessions and self-led development tasks, giving participants practical tools and frameworks they can use straight away in their own teams and workplaces.

The course focuses on key areas where new managers often need support, including leadership and influence, professional conversations, negotiation, team performance, objective setting and feedback, while also creating a cross-sector peer group for people facing similar challenges.

David Mutton, Leadership and Management Specialist at Evolve, said many people are “suddenly expected to lead a team” without preparation, and the programme is designed to give them “the confidence to lead” alongside practical tools and the right mindset.

The first cohort starts on 12 May, followed by monthly sessions at Evolve Townhouse in Poole.
