NHS urges Dorset residents to plan ahead

Health services in Dorset are preparing for disruption as resident doctor industrial action begins this morning.

The action is due to run from 7am on 7 April until 7am on 13 April, with the NHS working to keep services running safely while consultants, specialist doctors and other staff continue their duties.

Health leaders at NHS Dorset say the focus will be on maintaining as many services as possible and ensuring urgent and emergency care remains available throughout the period.

Residents are being encouraged to use NHS services wisely, including using NHS 111 online for non urgent medical advice and support.

Patients with planned appointments should continue to attend as normal and should not call to check unless they are contacted directly to rearrange.

The NHS says people should only dial 999 in a medical or mental health emergency to help ensure emergency care remains available for those who need it most.
