Topps Tiles to close shops in cost cuts

A DIY retailer with several stores in Dorset has announced plans to close 23 shops.

Topps Tiles confirmed the closures as part of what it described as significant measures designed to reduce costs, with the affected locations representing around 7 percent of the company’s total store network.

The Leicestershire based company said the shops identified for closure are underperforming and that the programme will be implemented over the next 6 months as the business reviews its operations.

Topps Tiles currently has branches in Bournemouth, Poole, Christchurch and Ringwood, although the company has not confirmed whether any of those locations will be affected.

Chief executive Alex Jensen said the business is responding to subdued consumer sentiment, geopolitical uncertainty and rising costs by introducing targeted measures designed to support profit growth and strengthen the company’s financial position.
