Call to tackle fly-tipping in Dorset
Dorset’s Police and Crime Commissioner has highlighted progress in tackling fly-tipping across the county.
David Sidwick says new figures from Dorset Council show enforcement activity has increased significantly over the past year.
In 2025 the council issued 80 fixed penalty notices for waste-related offences, almost double the number issued the year before.
Thirty-three of those fines were specifically for fly-tipping.
Sidwick said fly-tipping harms the environment, undermines communities and places financial pressure on taxpayers.
He also warned that waste crime can sometimes be linked to wider criminal activity, including illegal waste operations.
Work to tackle the issue is being coordinated through the Dorset Partnership Against Rural Crime, which brings together police, councils and rural organisations.
Residents are being encouraged to report incidents of fly-tipping to their local council and to check that anyone removing waste is properly licensed.
