RNLI lifeguards return to BCP beaches

RNLI lifeguards are returning to patrol beaches across Bournemouth and Poole this spring.

From 28 March, crews will cover Bournemouth East, Bournemouth West, Boscombe East and Sandbanks daily between 10am and 6pm, with the remaining beaches across the area joining the service between 23 May and 18 July.

This year marks 25 years since RNLI lifeguards began operating locally, with Bournemouth one of the original pilot locations, and over that time crews have saved 188 lives, aided 47,314 people and responded to 45,706 incidents.

Lead Lifeguard Supervisor Kester Sheppard said teams have been preparing in recent weeks and are ready to return, offering advice so visitors can “enjoy their day and go home safely”.

He also reminded people the water remains cold and urged them to be prepared, adding it is important to check conditions and understand local risks before entering the sea.

Councillor Richard Herrett said the service has been “invaluable” over the past 25 years and encouraged residents and visitors to choose lifeguarded beaches and follow guidance.
