Penn Hill car park approved for sale

BCP Council has approved the sale of Penn Hill Car Park in Canford Cliffs despite concerns from some councillors.

The car park, which has 47 spaces plus motorcycle and disabled bays, is located close to shops on Penn Hill Avenue.

A council report says the site is underused and generates relatively low income.

During a full council meeting on March 24, councillors debated a proposal to remove the car park from a list of assets due to be sold.

Ward councillor John Challinor argued that local councillors had not been fully consulted and warned the sale could affect nearby businesses.

However, the amendment was rejected by councillors.

Council leader Millie Earl said the authority must find £38 million in savings over the next three years to avoid severe financial pressures.

Councillors later voted in favour of selling the car park as part of the council’s wider asset disposal programme.

It is not yet known how much the site could sell for or what it may be used for in the future.
