Council approves sale of vacant sites

Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council has agreed to sell a vacant care home in Christchurch and a former day centre in Poole.

Councillors approved the disposal of Queensmead Care Home and a building on Commercial Road in Poole at a full council meeting on March 24.

Queensmead Care Home has been empty for four years after a storm caused significant damage to the roof in 2022.

Residents from the 40-bed care home were relocated and the building’s leaseholder later surrendered the property.

A council report says the site is now outdated, does not meet modern care standards and continues to generate security and maintenance costs.

The council will also sell a former day centre at 12 to 14 Commercial Road in Poole.

The property, which includes an office building and a converted Victorian villa, is currently unoccupied and has experienced several break-ins.

It is not yet known how much the sites will sell for, but both have been identified as having potential for redevelopment.
