Young people join YMCA first aid course
Young people in Bournemouth have completed a first aid training programme at a local leisure centre.
YMCA Bournemouth welcomed its first group of participants to the Mini Medics course at The Junction Sports and Leisure Centre, where 10 young people learned essential emergency skills.
The programme is designed for children and uses practical activities and hands on learning to teach how to call for help, treat minor injuries, recognise medical emergencies and place someone in the recovery position.
Organisers say the course aims to build confidence, encourage responsibility and give young people the knowledge needed to support friends or family members in an emergency.
The training is delivered by YMCA Bournemouth’s in house instructor approved by NUCO, allowing the charity to provide accessible training to the local community.
A parent of two participants said the course was an “excellent learning opportunity” and described the training as practical, relevant and thorough.
YMCA Bournemouth says income from training programmes helps support its wider work with vulnerable people in the community.
