Christchurch church opens new building

Christchurch Baptist Church will hold its first services in a new building this month.

The congregation will meet for the first time in the new church on Bargates on Sunday 29 March with two services planned at 9.15am and 11.00am.

The new building includes a 250 seat worship space that is around 60 percent larger than the existing hall opposite, allowing the church to expand its activities for the local community.

Alongside regular services, the building will host children’s and youth groups, support meetings and community events serving residents across Christchurch and surrounding areas.

Church leaders say the congregation has met at the current location for 151 years but the building has been outgrown during the past 20 years.

Minister Chris Brockway said the opening represents “more than a new building” and reflects a continued commitment to serving the town.

Construction was completed in 13 months by Dorset firm A Hammond and Sons.

A formal opening ceremony with the Mayor of Christchurch and a community fun day is planned for Saturday 23 May.
