Brian Cox brings Emergence tour to BIC
A new science show exploring the universe and the laws of nature is heading to Bournemouth.
Professor Brian Cox will bring his latest live production Emergence to the BIC Windsor Hall, presenting a show that explores how complex structures in the universe develop from simple underlying principles.
The tour follows Cox’s previous show Horizons, which was performed to audiences across the world and attracted nearly 500000 people.
Emergence examines ideas ranging from the structure of galaxies and ecosystems to the workings of the human brain, asking how intricate patterns can arise from the basic forces that shape the universe.
The programme draws inspiration from a question asked by the astronomer Johannes Kepler in 1610 when he noticed a snowflake and wondered why they form six sided patterns, an observation that led to wider thinking about how order can arise in nature.
Cox said “I’ve loved creating Emergence. It’s the most ambitious live show I’ve ever written” explaining that the production combines work from scientists, musicians, filmmakers and graphic artists.
The show brings together cosmology, biology, philosophy and history using large LED screens, music and lighting designed to present scientific ideas through a live theatre experience.
